What to expect at your exam
A step-by-step overview of the aviation medical exam process

Complete MedXPress
Fill out your FAA medical application at medxpress.faa.gov at least 48 hours before your appointment.

Arrive with your confirmation number
Bring your MedXPress confirmation number (printed or digital), government-issued photo ID, and any relevant medical records.

Vitals and measurements
Height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse will be recorded.

Vision testing
Near vision, distance vision, and color vision (first-time applicants) are evaluated.

Hearing test
Conversational voice test or audiometry to verify hearing meets FAA standards.

Urine sample
A urine specimen is collected to screen for sugar and protein.

Physical examination
Dr. Kaiser performs a comprehensive physical exam covering cardiovascular, neurological, and general health.

Certificate issuance

How much does an aviation medical exam cost?
A Class 2 or Class 3 medical exam is $135. Color vision testing (required for first-time applicants) is an additional $35.
